With the recent notification of RBI?(Reserve Bank of India)?about limiting Non Banking Financial Companies (NBFC) to provide Gold Loan up to 60% of value of Gold Jewellary, it seems now rules of the game would be rewritten.

Now, banks might turn out to be better option for Gold Loan borrowers due to following reasons:

NBFCs can offer 60% of value of Gold Jewellary while Banks offer almost 90% of value of Gold Jewellary. So for borrowing one lakh you would need to pledge 44 grams gold (at Rs 2,500/gram) with banks while with gold loan NBFCs you would need to pledge minimum of 66.5 grams of gold (at same the rate for gold).

Banks charge a lower rate of interest on the loan. NBFCs like Muthoot Finance and Mannapuram Finance charge between 12% ? 25% depending on your credit history. On the other hand, banks like Central Bank and HDFC Bank charge in the range of 12% ? 16%.

The rate at which the bankers value gold does not change dynamically with the change in market price of gold. They are revised generally on a monthly or a weekly basis.

But NBFCs gain when it comes to loan processing time, processing fees and flexibility in duration of the loan.

For processing a gold loan request, banks charge around 1% of the loan value as processing charges?and in some cases borrowers face an additional charge under stamp duty and assayer charges. Gold finance companies however have a very nominal processing charge and this again is a fixed amount and doesn?t vary with value of the loan. At Manappuram Finance for instance the processing fee is Rs 8 and from the second month of the loan the borrower is levied Rs 2 as renewal fee in addition to the interest.

Banks also take a relatively longer time to process a gold loan. This is generally because of the additional paper work and sometimes because of certain procedural delays and glitches at the back-end.

So now it?s you to decide what you want!

if you are looking for higher value of gold loan at lower interest rate bank might be a good option but if you want a more flexible approach with faster processing time NBFCs would be a better option.

Way back before NRG was making electric DeLoreans and building solar power plants, it co-owned a slew of power facilities in California with Dynegy — an energy outfit that got caught up in a long-term litigation over some old energy contracts with the state. Long story short, that legal dispute became NRG’s problem in 2006, after it acquired Dynegy’s majority stake in the partnership — a problem it’s finally resolving by peppering California with 200 fast-charging EV stations. The $120 million settlement promises to create jobs, invest in the state’s economy and provide job training for the stations’ maintenance and installation crews.

NRG may be shelling out some serious cash, but the deal is still mutually beneficial — those extra vehicle chargers will be running on its own fee-based eVgo network, after all. Governor Jerry Brown calls the settlement the beginning of a “virtuous circle” that will boost EV sales for the state, which will in turn, provoke investors to expand California’s charging infrastructure, which will, of course, sell more cars. In fact, he’s banking on it, and has signed an executive order setting targets for EV adoption. If all goes as planned, you’ll be looking at a smog free San Francisco skyline by 2050. Won’t that be nice?

Europe’s attempts to punish Syria’s brutal regime turned today to the British-born wife of President Assad. Asma al-Assad was banned from traveling to Europe and her financial assets were frozen. But the sanctions may be largely impotent, as a UK passport holder she can’t be prevented from entering the UK. ITV’s Paul Davies reports

By Reuters

WASHINGTON — Iran is providing a broad array of assistance to Syrian President Bashar Assad to help him suppress anti-government protests, from high-tech surveillance technology to guns and ammunition, U.S. and European security officials say.

Tehran’s technical assistance to Assad’s security forces includes electronic surveillance systems, technology designed to disrupt efforts by protesters to communicate via social media, and Iranian-made drone aircraft for overhead surveillance, the officials said. They discussed intelligence matters on condition of anonymity.

“Over the past year, Iran has provided security assistance to Damascus to help shore up Assad. Tehran during the last couple of months has been aiding the Syrian regime with lethal assistance – including rifles, ammunition, and other military equipment — to help it put down the opposition,” a U.S. official said.

“Iran has provided Damascus (with) monitoring tools to help the regime suppress the opposition. It has also shared techniques on Internet surveillance and disruption,” the official continued.

Syrians brave gunfire in anti-Assad protests

He added that Iran had also provided Assad’s government with “unarmed drones that Damascus is using along with its own technology to monitor opposition forces.”

Syria’s rebel fighters are desperate for arms and ammunition. Members of the Free Syrian Army were forced from Idlib – one of the last rebel strongholds. ITN’s John Irvine reports from outskirts of Idlib, the north western city which rebels surrendered last week.

Iranian security officials have also traveled to Damascus to advise Assad’s entourage how to counter dissent, the official said. Some Iranian officials have stayed on in Syria to advise Assad’s forces, he added.

Iran’s multi-pronged security aid to Syria appears to have helped Assad’s government in its increasingly violent campaign to hold on to power in the face of a year-long protest movement. The United Nations estimates 8,000 civilians have died in the conflict.

However, the U.S. and European officials said the Syrian government’s survival is not totally dependent on continuing help from Tehran.

Assad’s wife banned from traveling, shopping in EU

U.S. and allied official broadly agree that Assad’s control remains solid. His opponents are hopelessly disorganized, the officials said, which may make it possible for the Syrian president and his entourage to hold onto power for years.

“At current levels Iranian aid is important but not really a game changer in the overall conflict,” a U.S. official noted.

Paul Conroy, a photographer for the Sunday Times, was badly injured while on assignment in Syria and his colleague ? legendary war correspondent Marie Colvin was killed. Conroy joins NBC’s Andrea Mitchell to reflect on the situation.

Iran has for decades been a patron to Syria, which has helped funnel aid and weapons to the Iranian-backed Shiite Muslim militia Hezbollah in Lebanon.

During the protests that followed Iran’s disputed 2009 presidential election — the biggest mass protests since the Islamic Republic’s founding in 1979 — Iranian authorities disrupted social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as cell phone networks.

Iran’s internal crackdown reportedly has escalated since then.

Wounded Syrians recount horror of tank attacks

A European official said that the Iranians were providing Syrian security agencies with hardware and software that would help them disrupt efforts to organize protests inside Syria and efforts by anti-government elements to spread their message to supporters outside the country.

European suppliers
Officials said that Syria had also obtained some surveillance technology from European suppliers.

As protests against Assad’s rule grew last year, the United States first raised the possibility that Iranian authorities were helping their Syrian counterparts suppress dissent.

Finally, UN reaches agreement over ‘extremely dangerous crisis’ in Syria

Last June the U.S. Treasury Department announced economic sanctions against two of Iran’s most senior police officials for allegedly helping Assad’s government crush protests.

The Treasury imposed U.S. economic sanctions on Ismail Ahmadi Moghadam and Ahmad-Reza Radan, chief and deputy chief of Iran’s national police force, because their agency had “provided support to the Syrian General Intelligence Directorate and dispatched personnel to Damascus in April to assist the Syrian government in suppressing the Syrian people.”

The Treasury alleged that Radan had traveled to Damascus to meet with Syrian security agencies, to whom he allegedly provided “expertise to aid in the Syrian government crackdown on the Syrian people.”

Activist: Assad’s crackdown turning peaceful Syrians into terrorists

U.S. officials said Iranian efforts to bolster Syria’s surveillance capabilities have been supplemented by deliveries to Syria of Iranian-made unarmed surveillance drone aircraft.

Earlier this month a specialized website, The Aviationist, reported that a drone flying over the city of Homs, the site of recent violent clashes between government and opposition forces, had been identified as a “Pahpad” drone, which the website said meant “remotely piloted aircraft” in Farsi.

Saudi Arabia will deliver military equipment to Syrian rebels in an effort to stop the bloodshed. NBC’s Ayman Mohyeldin reports.

In February another specialized website, Open Source GEOINT, published freeze-frame images from what purported to be an amateur cameraman’s video of a suspected drone flying over a Damascus suburb.

Iran vows to retaliate ‘on the same level’ to US or Israel attack

The website noted that some news reports had suggested that the United States was flying intelligence drones over Syria but that the drone in the pictures did not appear to be a U.S. model.

The website cited speculation that the drone might be of Iranian origin. Ynet News, an Israeli website, reported this month that Syria’s defense industry produces drones that are technologically identical to Iranian-produced models and speculated that these domestically produced models were what Syrian security forces had deployed.

Report: ‘I am the real dictator,’ Bashar’s wife says

However, a U.S. official said that some of Syria’s drones had come directly from Iran.

Last weekend the Iranian news agency Fars announced that Iranian experts had produced what it called a “new type of drone” known as the Shaparak, or “Butterfly,” which it said was “capable of carrying out military and border patrol missions.”

A new survey of mobile developers conducted by Appcelerator and IDC has turned up some interesting results. No doubt spurred by the death of mobile Flash, developers are rapidly embracing HTML5 for building apps. Similarly, developers seem to be embracing Google?s social efforts more than, perhaps, everyday users might be. However, another finding jumps out: Developer interest in the Android platform seems to be slowly eroding. Apple?s iOS remains the top target of mobile developer efforts, with 89 percent of respondents indicating they?re very interested in developing for the iPhone, and a nearly equal number (88 percent) saying they?re very interested in the iPad.

Android holds a strong second-place ranking: some 78.6 percent of developers say they?re very interested in developing for Android phones, and 65.9 percent say they?re very interested in Android tablet. But here?s the thing: the Android phone figures represent a 4.7 percent quarter-to-quater decline.?Similarly, the Android tablet figures are 2.2 percent lower than from the last survey.

Fewer Android developers means fewer top-drawer applications for Android ? and could mean users will eventually begin leaving the platform for one with better software. Why are some developers turning way from Android, and what can be done to keep them on board?

Is Ice Cream Sandwich melting on the shelf?

The results of the Appcelerator survey seem to fly in the face of comments from Google chairman Eric Schmidt, who forecast that the release of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich would spark developer interest, and perhaps make Ice Cream Sandwich some developers? preferred deployment platform by mid-2012. As the first release of Android to be optimized for use on both tablets and smartphones, ICS was supposed to overcome longstanding concerns of Android platform fragmentation and give developers a solid, sure target for their apps.

Android?s future would seem to be rosey: In late February at Mobile World Congress, Google?s Android chief Andy Rubin claimed that there were more than 300 million Android devices out in the wild, including 12 million tablets. Furthermore, Google was activating some 850,000 new Android devices every day. That would seem to be a pretty ripe plum for developers looking to get their mobile apps in front of a large audience.

However, developers seem to be taking a cautious wait-and-see approach to Ice Cream Sandwich. Google?s latest and greatest Android operating system was initially only available on a single device ? the Samsung Galaxy Nexus ? and while device makers and carriers are gradually getting ICS out to a number of recent devices, progress has been slow. A surprising number of Android devices on the market are still running Android 2.2 (Froyo) or earlier. Many will never get upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich: Some users will only upgrade when (and if) they buy a new Android device. Right now, the most widely installed version of Android seems to be version 3.0 Gingerbread, which had a slower rollout than any previous version of Android. So far, Ice Cream Sandwich seems to be experiencing an even slower introduction ? check out Chris Sauve?s analysis of Android versions and fragmentation for an idea. When building an app for Android today, developers still face a serious question: Do I target Ice Cream Sandwich and hope the market catches up with my app? Or do I target Gingerbread (or perhaps even earlier versions of Android) to reach the most people?

Still, Android doesn?t have it so bad. The same survey found developer interest in Research in Motion?s BlackBerry platform has dropped from 20.7 percent last quarter to 15.5 percent this quarter. And, despite underwhelming sales to date, developer interest in Microsoft?s Windows Phone platform is holding steady at 37 percent. That basically puts Microsoft?s nascent smartphone platform in the number-three position, albeit distantly. Furthermore, an essentially equal number of developers report being very interested in making apps for Windows 8 tablets.

As intriguing as the survey results are, it?s important to note they don?t represent scientific fact. The results are based on surveying some 2,173 Appcelerator Titanium developers in late January 2012, and then following up with 484 in late February. There?s no way of telling if developers who use Appcelerator?s development framework are in any way representative of Android developers in general. Both Appcelerator and IDC note that the figures for the erosion of developer interest in Android aren?t far from the margin of error for their survey. So it could all be a hill of beans.

To market, to market, to buy a fat pig?

Android fragmentation is likely only part of some developers? concern over building Android apps. Another appears to be workable revenue models for Android applications. Simply put, making a quality Android app that generates significant revenue seems to be significantly different than making a quality app for iOS that generates significant revenue. Developers prefer to design and build one application, then bring versions to different platforms. However, the reality is that an app design and revenue model that works for iOS may not work for Android, and vice versa. While not yet common, some developers are finding themselves in a position where it makes sense to drop their Android development efforts ? a recent example is Mika Mobile. And doing business with Google?s Android Market, now Google Play for Android, can be quite a lot different than doing business with Apple: Game developer Retro Dreamer says it doesn?t build paid Android apps because the international tax situation is too complex?? an issue it doesn?t have with iOS.

Last November, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Muster raised eyebrows by opining that the overall revenue generated by Android applications was a mere seven percent of that generated by iOS apps. Many criticized Munster?s analysis as incomplete, noting the figures did not seem to account for so-called ?freemium? games that are free to download but that require payments to full activate or that make additional features or content available through in-app purchases. A key difference in the Android and iOS app revenue models is that Apple?s iTunes App Store is built on Apple?s iTunes Store, which has been accumulating accounts (and associated credit cards) for nearly a decade. Apple had (and retains) an enormous number of customers who are accustomed to paying for digital content a la carte. Google didn?t have that, and many successful Android app developers have eschewed the traditional pay-to-download model and embraced freemium and in-app purchases as a way to generate revenue. Of course, a tremendous variety of applications also derive their revenue from in-app advertising ? another revenue source that wouldn?t have been factored in to that dreary seven percent solution.

Nonetheless, the revenue disparity between Android and iOS apps seems very real. Last December, Flurry Analytics found that if an app is available for both iOS and Android, the Android version will generate on average less than one quarter of the revenue of the iOS app. Flurry attributed the discrepancy to an Android users? ability to pay: With Apple, nearly every user is a potential paying customer, where Google Checkout is used by far fewer Android users.

Free apps that rely on in-app advertising to support their development also have their downsides. A recent study from Cambridge University found that 80 percent of free applications in the Android Market were supported by in-app advertising. More than 70 percent of free apps request ?dangerous? permissions to access things like user?s messages, email, location, contacts, phone number, and unique device identifier. The price of ?free? apps in many cases seems to be a loss of privacy and disclosing personal data. As consumers become increasingly aware of online and mobile privacy issues, the free-with-ads revenue model may be inhibiting consumers adoption of Android apps.

Can Google and developers cope?

Android is not facing an imminent crisis amongst developers. But, looking out over the next two years, Android (and Google) are clearly going to have to move application development and revenue generation to the same priority level as OEM adoption and device activations, or face a stagnating software and content ecosystem. Here?s where we expect Google to focus its attention:

Expand in-app purchasing beyond games

Currently, most in-app purchases on mobile platforms are limited to games, and are fueled by a handful of dedicated gamers buying virtual goods and content add-ons. Google only enabled in-app billing features in March 2011: Both Google and developers need to leverage this capability to create revenue models that work beyond games. This will have to include support for subscription billing ? something Google has yet to enable ? so users can subscribe to regular content updates from magazines, newspapers, and other publishers. Moreover, subscription billing will have to be as painless as possible to consumers. If it?s a difficult chore, it won?t be embraced.

Put user privacy ahead of in-app advertising

A tremendous number of companies offer in-app advertising services for Android (and iOS) applications: Developers typically sign up for the service, implement the ads as drop-in libraries, and hope for a check. Although there are ethical ad networks out there, in most cases app developers aren?t aware of what information ad networks are gleaning from their users? devices, and how that information is being used. Google cannot police third-party advertising networks. Heck, Google has exhibited very little interest in policing its own app marketplace. However, Google can build privacy controls into Android that put users in charge of how much information about themselves they are (and are not) comfortable disclosing to apps. Does a comics app really need to have access to location data? Probably not, but advertisers dearly want to know where people are located. Putting users in charge of their personal data may put a crimp in the existing ad-supported app model, but it will mean consumers will be far more comfortable with that model going forward. Privacy safeguards could have a similar effect for so-called ?incentivized installs,? which lure users into downloading advertisers? apps in exchange for in-game or in-app content.

Curate

One reason consumers may not be embracing Android apps as strongly as iOS apps? Google?s market is (still) a mess. The unmoderated nature of the Android Market has always attracted a large number of apps that infringe on copyright and trademark, as well as instances of outright malware. Google is attempting to address the threat situation with Bouncer, a new automated system that attempts to reject malware and other threats before they ever reach consumers. But it doesn?t take more than a search for ?Pokemon? or ?Batman? to see some rough edges. Google has attempted to expose reputable apps and publishers through its editorial choice lists and charts ranking top apps, but there?s always a sense with Android Market ? sorry, Google Play ? that you?re just a tap from a mistake. If users have confidence in a marketplace, they?re more likely to become paying customers.

As winter turns to spring, the weather becomes gorgeous and we spend an increasing amount of time outside. Invitations to pool parties and beach barbeques start rolling in and you have to figure out how to balance all of the food and drinks being offered to you without completely derailing your diet and fitness plan. So how can you stay swimsuit ready and still enjoy all of the perks of barbeque season?

?

Snacks: As you approach the food table at a barbeque, your eyes will instantly be drawn to the bowls full of Doritos, tortilla chips, and pretzels. You know that you should head to the veggie platter down at the other end of the table, but this is a party, right? Just because you are at a party, it is not an excuse to give up all of the good habits and results that you have worked so hard for. Even on a cheat day, pay attention to portions. If you decide that you want to go for the chips, make sure to grab just a few and don?t linger around the table where you can absentmindedly keep grabbing more as you chat with friends. As you?re snacking, fill the rest of your plate with veggies like celery sticks, carrots, cherry tomatoes, and bell peppers, and head for the hummus instead of the ranch dressing.

?

Salads: Many people assume that a salad is automatically healthy. Obviously potato salad and macaroni salad are being excluded from this assumption and most people realize that they should avoid the mayonnaise-covered foods. But what about the green salad? It?s not covered in mayo and there are veggies in it, so it must be healthy. This is true, until you saturate it with dressing and throw in a few handfuls of croutons. Try to use a little less dressing, appreciate the flavor of the veggies, and if you can?t cut out the croutons, take a few less. Fill half of your plate with the leafy greens to avoid filling it with other side dishes, which are usually unhealthy and low in nutrients. You can fill up on healthy vegetables that will nutritionally satisfy you, allow you eat a lot of food without racking up too many calories, and keep your waistline in check.

?

From the Grill: Grilled veggie kabobs and veggie burgers are a delicious and healthy alternative to eating hamburgers. But for those who prefer meatier options, eating from the grill offers quite a few healthy options. Grilled fish will give you a lot of healthy oils that will benefit your hair, skin, and nails. Marinate your skinless chicken breasts to get an extra punch of flavor while skipping the extra fat from the skin. Feel free to stick to a traditional burger, but make sure you have a ? pound serving, instead of a 1/3 or ? pound serving, and try to say no to the cheese. As far as other cuts of pork and beef, make sure to buy lean cuts and trim the fat before cooking. Utilize marinades and bold flavors to enhance the meats? flavors.

?

Desserts: When the desserts are brought to the table, there is no need to run and hide! Portion control is still key, but you can also navigate yourself towards healthier dessert options. Most barbeques will offer a fruit salad, so load up! You will get the sweetness that you crave along with the refreshing and unrefined taste of the fruits. If the cakes and cookies are what you desire, choose the one dessert you want most and only have that. This will keep you satisfied and from overeating.

?

Drinks: Drinks are an area people neglect to consider when deciding which calories to consume. Water is always your best option. It will hydrate and refresh you without adding a single calorie. Sparkling water is another good option, as it will fill you up more, so controlling yourself around the food may be easier. But if you are concerned about looking bloated in a swimsuit, stick to the still water instead of the bubbly. If you are craving more flavor than plain water, toss a strawberry or orange slice in there for a flavor boost. Sipping on sodas will make you bloat while adding empty calories, so save those calories for something you will really enjoy and can get some nutrition out of. If you are going to drink alcohol, make sure to do it wisely. Red wine will give you a good dose of antioxidants, while Guinness Extra Stout and other dark beers will give you antioxidants and prevent blood platelets from clotting, potentially preventing a heart attack. Light beers will not give those same health benefits, although they are lower in calories. If you are having mixed drinks, opt to make them yourself instead of buying mixes. Instead of using margarita mix, combine a shot of tequila, half of a shot of triple sec, and fresh-squeezed lime juice to save yourself hundreds of calories. Make your own hard lemonade by adding unsweetened lemonade to citrus vodka to save around 25 grams of sugar per serving.

?

And lastly?enjoy yourself! The party is about being with friends and family and enjoying each other?s company. Don?t let the food take center stage; go play games like Frisbee, beach volleyball, and soccer. Don?t deprive yourself and spend the whole party miserably staring longingly at the food table. You can always get back to your fitness plan by attending a free Monday night Yoga class at FITzee to make up for your weekend. Let the barbeques begin!

Sales Management Program Combines Creativity And Business Skills

Article by Emma

Excellent interpersonal skills, excellent listening and oral communication skills, self-directed, thrive under pressure, highly organized: If these words describe you, the Graduate Certificate program in Marketing ? Sales and Account Management may be your route to career success. This sales management program takes just two semesters to complete and focuses on ensuring that students gain a solid foundation in the intricacies of acquiring and maintaining relationships with major client accounts.

Conducted out of Progress Campus ? which is Centennial College?s largest campus, centrally located and houses many of the institutions business programs ? this undertaking provides ample opportunity for networking. In addition, students can speak to their professors about industry opportunities as these professionals come from the sales management field with extensive experience in sales, negotiation and account management in the business-to-business realm.

An ideal balance between theory and hands-on learning is provided so that students are equipped with a wide range of skills upon graduation that will make them instantly employable. The undertaking extensively uses learner-centered approaches such as: role-playing, simulation and cases, with a focus on developing selling, negotiating and presentation skills. Hands-on training is also provided in using sales force automation software. Specific courses within the sales management program include: Case Analysis and Marketing Metrics, Fundamentals of Selling, Fundamentals of Project Management, B2B Marketing, Strategic Account Development, Sales and Account Management and others.

In order to graduate from the sales management program, students must maintain a C grade average and an overall GPA of 2.0. Once they receive their Ontario College Graduate Certificate, graduates of the sales management program walk away with enough knowledge to apply for a number of jobs. If, however, students would like to gain even more experience, an optional third semester internship in the sales account management program is available.

Those interested in applying to this sales management program must submit an official transcript demonstrating proof of successful completion of a post-secondary advanced diploma or degree program. They may also be required to conduct an interview with officials, submit a resume and undergo an English and/or math skills assessment. Centennial College will also consider applicants presenting a combination of partial post-secondary education and relevant work experience, open to all disciplines.

Upon sales management program graduation, students go onto have careers are: key account managers, account executives, commercial sales representatives, sales specialists, technical sales representatives, sales consultants, sales coordinators, inside sales representatives, territory sales representatives and more. Despite the different positions, essentially, the field of Marketing: Sales and Account Management involves acquiring and maintaining relationships with major client accounts of mid to large sized companies that have their own sales force. These companies range from ones who handle medical and dental technology to those offering software and pharmaceutical products.
