That near-grand amount will get you Intel’s Core i5-2476m CPU and HD3000 graphics, 4GB of RAM, a hybrid drive (32GB SSD mixed with 500GB HDD), as well as a Premium copy of Windows 7. More importantly, the machine wouldn’t gracefully fall under the “Ultra” category if it wasn’t flaunting a relatively slim form factor, in which it tightly squeezes through the standards at 0.7-inches in thickness. It’s also about half a pound heavier than its pricier, better specced sibling.

Rick Santorum?s spokeswoman Alice Stewart said in a TV interview on Monday that Santorum was referring to President Barack Obama?s ?radical Islamic policies? when he said the president?s agenda was driven by ?phony theology? ? but then quickly called up MSNBC after the segment aired to say she misspoke.

?There is a type of theological secularism when it comes to the global warmists in this country. That?s what he was referring to. He was referring to the president?s policies in terms of the radical Islamic policies the president has,? Stewart said on ?Andrea Mitchell Reports.?

Mitchell later said on the air that Stewart phoned the show after the interview to say she had slipped up and said ?radical Islamic policies? instead of Obama?s ?radical environmental policies.?

Mitchell noted she had missed Stewart?s phrasing of ?radical Islamic policies? during the live interview.

?She had repeatedly said during that same interview ?radical environmental policies? and she said she slipped when she apparently said [it],? Mitchell said. ?I did not hear it, or I would have caught her on it and tried to get a correction at the moment. I really, frankly, did not hear her use the word Islamic, but the tape tells the tale.?

Santorum said in Ohio on Saturday that Obama?s agenda is ?not about you. It?s not about your quality of life. It?s not about your jobs. It?s about some phony ideal, some phony theology. Oh, not a theology based on the Bible, a different theology, but no less a theology.?

Santorum stood by his remarks later, telling reporters he wasn?t suggesting Obama is less of a Christian.

?No one?s suggesting that,? he said. ?I?m suggesting, obviously we all know in the Christian church there are a lot of different stripes of Christianity. I?m just saying he?s imposing his values on the church and I think that?s wrong. ? If the president says he?s a Christian, he?s a Christian.?

Santorum said on Sunday that he was referring to what he described as Obama?s radical views on the environment and on Monday, he continued attacking the president?s environmental record on the campaign trail.

During a panel discussion on MSNBC on Monday after Stewart?s slip of the tongue, The Washington Post?s Anne Kornblut said she thought Stewart would apologize for the comment, but that it may not stop conspiracy theorists from grabbing onto her statement.

?I expect we?re going to hear more from Alice Stewart apologizing about those remarks. But there will be conspiracy theorists thinking it was some kind of message she was trying to get out or it was really on the mind of the Santorum campaign when they are talking about President Obama,? Kornblut said.

In my work as an educational consultant who specializes in working with language schools, one question I am often asked is: How do you find a reputable educational agent?

Part of the answer is to avoid wasting your time with unproductive potential agents. That may sound harsh, but it isn?t when you consider that your reputation as a school is on the line. If youve ever been in the classroom, chances are that youve had a student who wants to monopolize your time in ways that dont contribute to the overall lesson or are just plain distracting or even bothersome.

As teachers, we learn how to handle students with all kinds of personalities and motives of their own. We learn to set boundaries with them while keeping the lesson focussed and hopefully avoid too much disruption in the classroom. That?s effective classroom management. We try to achieve this in ways that allow us to avoid embarrassing the student, if possible, while making it clear that as the teacher, were the one in control of the class and thats the way it should be. In fact, if we dont do that as teachers, we may lose others respect and not be taken as seriously.

The same idea applies to business relationships, particularly when it comes to others outside your school who want to work with you or represent you. The larger your program grows, the more people you will have knocking on your door wanting to work with you. Annoying though it may be, this is a good sign. It means you are being noticed and your image is one of success.

One of the ways that businesses get more business is to let the world know who their partners are. If an educational agent or tour operator can say they are working with ABC Language School and that school is well known in the community, either locally or internationally, then it lends them credibility and prestige.

Thats precisely why you want to take your time establishing new business relationships. It just may be that you dont want your name associated with that business.

One tactic that I learned while managing a university ESL program was to ask prospective new business partners or agents for a package in writing. Sometimes if the person was in the same city, either living here or just passing through, they would insist on a personal meeting first. I would gently but firmly state, in every case, that it was our policy to consider written proposal first, before a meeting. The reality was that the first few times I said that, I was fibbing. We didnt actually have such a policy. Having said that, we quickly created an internal policy that stated we had to receive all proposals in writing before a telephone or an in-person meeting.

Once everyone in the office knew the policy, we all stuck by it, asking frontline clerical staff to help prevent such calls coming through to us. One polite way for an administrative staff member to do this is to say, If you send the written proposal to my attention, I promise that will hand-deliver it to our manager to ensure she receives it. Anyone who took the time to send a proposal even a one-page, detailed letter would gain our attention, at least long enough for us to review the proposal.

If they couldnt deliver, we would gently but firmly stand our ground and move on. I was able to stop wasting time on agents and others who may or may not have had good intentions. And it also set out from the beginning who was in charge of our programs: we were.

That was the first step. From there, we requested references and examples of previous work done. If this caused our prospective business partner distress or caused them to become uncomfortable, we eliminated them from our list of possibilities.

Sometimes, the prospect would say, Oh, well our partners are located in a foreign country and no one here speaks the language. We would always reply that we were prepared to hire professional, accredited translators to check references. Very rarely did we ever hire a translator to check anyones references.

The steps we followed were:

* Insist on a written proposal first.
* If you receive a form letter or pre-made package, request more details on how exactly they would propose that you work together. Get this information in writing.
* Insist on references. If they cant or wont give these to you, the process ends there.
* Arrange a phone or in-person interview during which they do most of the talking. Ask about the history of the business, the persons credentials, and examples of experiences they have had working with other language schools.
* Close the meeting saying that you will consider their proposal and you will get back to them within a fixed amount of time (usually not more than one week, unless youre about to leave on a trip). Never agree to anything on the spot.

Part of the process involved abiding by our policies and the next step was to gauge the reaction of our prospective partners at certain points along the way. It became like a behavioral interview. If the other party wanted to bend our rules from the very beginning, insisted on doing things their way instead of ours or if they became frustrated, aggressive or unwilling to cooperate with us at any time, we knew we didnt want to work with them.

In the end, there can be any number of reasons why you would choose not to pursue a business relationship, including (but not limited to):

* The relationship may not be mutually beneficial.
* What the prospective agent wants to provide for you is not something you need at the moment (i.e. not a good fit from a business point of view.)
* The timing of the proposal is off. This can happen if you are undergoing changes in your organization. You can always ask the other party to check back with you again in six months.
* Your gut tells you that working with the other party would be a bad decision.

Although we sent some policies and procedures in place for dealing with prospective new business partners, the bottom line was for us to feel comfortable with the new person. You want your business partners to respect how you run your organization, be willing to provide you with what you need and be as interested in your success as you are.

Remember the 80/20 rule. 80% of your business will come from 20% of your clients. You want to ensure you have the time and energy to cultivate strong relationships with your top 20%. Part of being able to do this is to avoid those who have big ideas and good intentions, with no way of ever realizing their goals or yours. Be polite, be considerate and be firm.

The Nomad Play ($18) is the most beautiful of the kids’ iPad styli we’ve tested. Designed to make art, it’s an art object itself. But our kid and adult testers found its soft brush less practical than the AppCrayon’s ($9.99, 4 stars)?sturdy rubber tip.

The Nomad Play has a wooden handle and a soft brush at the end. The wooden handle is engraved?the green version has leaves, the red one flames, the blue one spaceships, and the yellow one a savannah wildlife scene. The thick, stubby body and 5-inch length fit well in our six-year-old tester Nina-Rose’s hand.

The problem is, iPad and Android drawing apps don’t read a brush as a brush. A brush, with its many fibers, creates a soft, full line with paint on paper. But this brush, in most kids’ coloring apps, by default creates a line that doesn’t match up with its size or shape. The long softness of the bristles and total lack of friction make it difficult to create precise lines, too. While there’s something to be said for a friction-free brush stylus?Nomad’s grownup Compose ($39, 3.5 stars) helped our adult artist make some great swooping lines?the kid just found it frustrating.

After a few minutes trying to color in Crayola ColorStudio HD with the Play, Nina-Rose gave up and said she’d rather use her finger. If a stylus doesn’t beat your finger, then it’s probably not worth buying.

For kids, we greatly prefer DanoToys’ AppCrayon, a less expensive stylus which delivers better friction against the screen and a clearer connection between the stylus’s tip and the line you’re drawing.

He?s 97 years young and he lives in Melrose, Mass. He?s been around for almost a century and he?s done so many great things. He was a great great man, loved by so many people. He has the kiss of life in him and he?s a funny Irish English man who was the ?youngest of 11 kids, who started to work selling celery in the Great Depression where he would load up his little red cart and take it to market and bring back the money to his mother. One of his brother?s became a congressman in Perth Amboy; his only child would become a nun. Bill?s kids would become my partner and beloved friend, Myqui Patten, her brother, a family man and a foreman, Patrick and sister, the beautiful Kate Patten up on beantown.

He?s not dead yet but he is dying and he?s in hospital and the question is will he make it back home to the house in Melrose or will he just go home to where he needs to be finally with family.

I?ve seen Bill when he was in his late 80?s, big bold and beautiful man with sparkling blue eyes, the love of life, love of women and the respect he had for all. His straw hats, his polo shirts and his shorts and sneakers were trademarks in his older years. Always a kind word, the man with so much money didn?t have any left but what he did have was a love of family.

At 95, he drove 12 hours in the rain and snow to see his son and family in PA. He was missing for a day, had no cell phone and stopped along the roadway when he couldn?t see well or got tired. It was the last big trip that he made.

In that year after a young kid hit him with a car. The girl was hysterical but Bill got up and sat on the curb and told the kid to watch how she drives and to go home quick cause he doesn?t want to press charges against her.

Bill was a career man, married to Vern who was a registered nurse. Together they had a great life and they produced the love of my life.

Someday, and in Bill,Vern, Ken & Helen?s honor I will take Myqui Patten to be my lawfully wedded partner.

So help me universe.

??????????????Love you pop, my two moms and my dear daddy,
